Pressure Drop in Pipelines

To properly size pipelines in complex systems, they should always be calculated in advance. The resulting pressure drop should ultimately be as low as possible to prevent efficiency losses and to operate the system safely.

Notes:

  • Die Strömungsgeschwindigkeit sollte unter 20 m/s liegen, sodass Geräusche und Erosionen vermieden werden
  • The pipe roughness is 0.02 for new drawn steel pipes and 0.05 for new welded steel pipes; for older pipes, higher values (approx. 0.2) must be used due to wear.
  • A standard cubic meter (Nm³) describes the volume of hydrogen at 1 bar and 20°C. If only a flow value in kg/h is available, it must first be divided by the density (0.089 kg/m³).
  • Achtung: Der Volumenstrom unter Druck (Betriebsvolumen) weicht aufgrund der Kompressibilität von Wasserstoff vom Volumenstrom in Normkubikmetern ab (siehe Berechnungsergebnisse)
  • The calculation of pressure drop through valves, bends and taps is only accurate up to nominal widths of 60 mm.
